Not only is Ashland the home of the world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which runs from mid-February through early November, but there are numerous other nearby attractions. Ashland's Lithia Park is a delightful place to relax, picnic, stroll, or just sit and enjoy a picturesque setting. While many of Ashland's homes are on the National Registry of Historic homes, in nearby Jacksonville, the entire town is on the registry. Drive through the pear orchards to visit this intriguing town.
If you prefer the natural world, you have many choices here, too. Crater Lake is a short two hours away, unless you stop of the Rogue Gorge to view the spectacular chasm along the way. Going west rather than east, you can travel to Grants Pass, then down to Crescent City, California, for a stroll through the Redwoods National Park. If caving interest you, Oregon Caves is just a short drive off the road so you can combine a visit to it with your trip to Redwood Park. A quick trip north from the park will allow you to enjoy the southern part of the Oregon Coast. Closer to Ashland, both the Rogue and Klamath rivers provide excellent fishing as well as whitewater rafting.
